no-vember

what an insane month.
and clearly i was doing reviews only in my head and not here, so behind! eek. will have to get on that...

alright, let's see what happened this month ;

Short month, only read 7 *cringes* and half of 3 others... so... 8.5? thats not any better. oy.

- lets get textual
- how not to date a douchebag
- part of your world
- light between worlds
- roomies
- wicker king
- girls of paper and fire
- *half of nevernight (but i DNF'd)
- shape of water (which i will finish this week)
- ripple effect (which is my bedtime book so it'll be done this weekend)

ugh. that's terrible. Though, they were all great books - except nevernight drove me nuts. For some reason it was such a struggle to read. I liked it, but I had to stop. I'll go back to it one day.

which puts me at 163 for the year. out of 200.
There is no way i'm making my goal. Let me go cry in a corner now. sigh.

Welp. I don't know what this month is going to look like. Work is going to be slow as classes have been cancelled for exams and whatnot, so I'll have some more time at home - which is helpful, technically. But I've gotten into another one of my hobbies (trying to turn it into a small business next year) and I've been watching Little House on the Prairie for the first time ever which means I need to pay attention so trying to close out the world to read has been tough.  I have high hopes for December I get at least 11 books done (plus the two I'm in the middle of from last month)

- Map of days (already started and loving)
- Pendragon  - which has 10 books in it and since it's a reread/favourite I can breeze through them.

Ideally I'd like one or two off my kindle books too, which I tend to read while I'm waiting in lines or at work so that should be easy enough.

November was a little crazy. But what month hasn't been this year? honestly...   Boyfriend and I are still good. Taking things slow, which is nice. We aren't doing anything christmasy together but new years plans did come up - though I told him NY day was for ASoUE because i need to see that ending!  and i have no patience.

My plans for NaNoWriMo failed. I knew they would but I tried anyways... I got just over 2k written and life took over. Had no energy. I was using my best friend as a sounding board for a few ideas and he kinda ruined some stuff for me so I lost my motivation. This is why I don't talk to people! haha oh well. I'll get to my story, just not right now.

Next year I'm making some big changes to how I do things with my reading/other goals so hopefully that helps. December should be calm enough - though this snow needs to go. We've had some crazy storms this week and they were not fun to drive in (especially when one of your window wipers breaks. luckily it wasn't the driver side)

This is the first year I haven't had a proper christmas tree set up - mostly because of space, but i also don't trust granite to a) not knock it over with his tail and 2) not to pee on it haha silly pup. I have a small table top one (that shows up on my IG so go see it, its pink and pretty!) and even though it's high up, his tail still reaches it when hes playing. I can't win... but he's super cute so he gets away with it. Nothing breakable is on it since I'm not an idiot ;) but it still makes me sad I don't have my big tree up.

see you all in 2019 <3

Falling though October

Did this month go super slow for anyone else?
at least, time wise...

like, it was busy. and it flew by in some senses... but I keep thinking it's November and it's not. and i'm surprised by it when i check the date everyday  (though it's November now so there ya go..)

Again, this month of library books took over (not that i'm complaining)

- art of blending in
- towering sky
- inkmistress
- dance of thieves
- p.s i still love you
- always and forever, lara jean
- a darker shade of magic
- letters to the lost
- legendary
- invisible ghosts
- puddin'
- when my heart joins the thousand
- mad for you in madrid (ARC)
- Man Candy

which puts me at 156/200 so not horrible...
still a long way to go before new years.

i am loving my library lately
and it keeps me on track,
 so November plans include:

- nevernight
- part of your world
- the light between worlds
MY LIST FROM THE SUMMER BECAUSE: PROCRASTINATION !
(obsidio, lost boy, finale, raven king)
- gathering of shadows
- conjuring of light
- tower of dawn
- lady midnight

plus whatever else comes in
(there's about 10 books on hold that i'm waiting on)

who knows if i'll get to them all because I'm also trying to do NaNo but we shall see!
over achiever much?
i'm also behind on allllll the reviews.
eek.

Life has been weird lately. Work has been insane, which is good and bad (bad only because i miss having personal time and i'm exhausted) but for the most part I have my routine down.

personally everything is pretty stable. apartment life is still weird but granite and i are hanging out. my golden retriever has been over quite a bit lately with the ex - as we try and stay friends - so that's been interesting. also started dating again and that's just been ridiculous. friend of mine is also in the middle of a separation, so at least I have someone to talk to who gets it (our ex dudes also have the same name so it makes for some interesting misunderstandings haha) but she's also dating and we're so similar in how we handle it and how we react to the stupidity of men that it's just amazing.

Trying to do NaNoWriMo this year again. last year I lucked out and work was on strike so i got paid to stay home for 5 weeks and it was lovely and easy to write on my own schedule. this year i don't have that option and it's annoying .. but good for the students I guess.  i was going to work on my captain hook retelling... but I picked up "lost boy" and its like, 94% of the same story .. and I'm not sure if that 6% difference is enough to have me write it. I still want to, but i'm so annoyed with the idea right now that i've dropped it. even put off the book again. ugh.

so i'm moving on to my assassin book - because I don't know how else to describe it haha. a pinterest prompt gave me an interesting idea and I've decided to run with it. But i was prepping so much on the Hook one... that i'm Pants'ing hardcore on my assassin one and it's stressing me out! which is fine, I'm not too much of a planner .. it's also not completely from scratch as i've written 2 or 3 chapters so i have a general idea where I'm taking it.

not sure how much writing i'll actually get in. I'm hoping to make it to a write-in in my area too. last year every night we planned something, i had work or a snow storm and the hour drive wasn't worth it. so fingers crossed for this year! not "winning" will anger me so i'm going to end up getting no sleep because I will want to write all night when i get home just to get that 50k *squinty eyes*

November should be a lot better, overall, as work isn't as busy and my weekends are mostly free right now (unless you count the dating?) but I'm betting it goes by a lot faster than october did. Wish time had a remote, just to slow it down ever so slightly

Review: Echoes in the walls

 Echoes in the walls
House of Secrets - Book 2
 V.C Andrews

Continuing on right from book one, House of Secrets, Fern is left to deal with the consequences of her romance with Ryder and the Revelations that were forced to come out.

Ryder's accident has left him with holes in his memory. He doesn't know who he is, where he is, or who his family is.

Their younger sister, Samantha, is out to get spiteful revenge on both of them and though she has been told to leave Ryder alone, so his memory can come back naturally, she decides to cause trouble and force the issue.

Fern tries to distract herself by going out with her friend Ivy, and ends up dating Dillon. While the romance is fine, Ryder and Fern cannot keep each other out of their thoughts. When Samantha intervenes, forcing Ryder's treatment to backfire, Fern has to come to terms with what she wants from her family and her heart.

Honestly, I didn't hate this story. The epilogue was stupid and rushed (there's a third book, isn't there? why did he force a bunch of plot points into one unnecessary chapter?! and if there isn't a third book coming, then there should be because WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?! Fern and Ryder need to end up together please. run away together or something but tell your parents to get lost, and have your sister fall down the stairs in true VCA fashion. Thanks.)  but overall, i thought it was alright. Better than most of his books lately, and I like that we actually get back to the VCA roots with the incest and family drama and not just some girl, in a stand alone story, where nothing happens but her thinking to herself for 120 pages if she is old mature to be an adult yet or not. blah blah blah.

Not great, by any means, and I wouldn't mind some of the story from Ryder's POV - though when do we ever get the boy's side of the story - but I think if the writing goes back to this kind of style, maybe this fandom isn't as doomed as we fans have been thinking? Fingers crossed.

3.5 stars.

September went by in a flash

Another crazy month, honestly is there any other kind these days?

It was mostly just busy with work, but I also got a bit obsessed with the library and I got a bunch of books which distracted me from my tbr

which is totally fine
because they were all books I wanted and loved

so, let's get down to business
(since huns were involved in this month's reads *clicky guns* )

well, what did I actually read? well:

- unwelcomed child
- wedding date
- internet famous
- dazzling heights
- reflection: a twisted tale
- words on bathroom walls
- emergency contact
- scythe (mostly a reread)
- starry eyes
- kiss me if you can
- thunderhead
- echoes in the walls

i also reviewed 3 for summer's eve reads (which were all amazing)

which means 15 for the months, putting me at 142/200 for the year
woot woot !

I still have a huge pile of library books, plus a few of my own that have been following me around since the summer haha (honestly, i am in panic mode now, stress reading these is getting to me!)

 - dangerous art of blending in
- towering sky
- p.s i still love you
- legendary
- a darker shade of magic
- letters to the lost
- inkmistress
- dance of thieves
(and still..)
- raven king
- obsidio
- lost boy
- finale  (patch, swoooon)

plus whatever I end up reviewing for Summer's eve reviews and the few kindle reads I have.

p.s does anyone know why my kindle buys aren't connecting to my app? its so annoying !

i still need about 60 books to get to my year goal so let's hope i rock it this month ;)

honestly, life is kinda boring. i hate being single... but i don't regret my decision on how i got here either. so what can you do. the apartment is finally feeling like home, which is nice.. and Granite is settling in nicely - he no longer barks at EVERY noise, but he still isn't a fan of the across-the-hall people

though i'm not either so whatever

work is ridic busy and i wait for days off like kids wait for their birthday parties. my pjs and i have become best friends on those days. and naps. naps are nice.

i'm debating on doing NaNoWriMo this year ... work is crazy, and i have no energy these days... I'm not sure I'll get the 50k and not finishing it will annoy me since I'm a perfectionist like that
so i'm going to see how much time I have to put into preptober and then we'll take it from there. I'm excited for the story I have in mind and I don't want to do a half-ass job on it, y'know?

Review: The unwelcomed child

 The Unwelcomed Child
 V. C Andrews

One of the more recent stand alone books, The Unwelcomed Child follows Elle Edwards as she describes her life living with her grandparents. The "unwelcomed" part comes from being a product of rape, and her grandparents forced Elle's mother to have the baby anyways (it being against their religion to do anything else with the child).

We follow Elle through a summer of self-leaning, with her grandmother's rigorous chores, strict religious teachings, and seclusion.  Unable to leave the house on her own, as she is home-schooled and does not drive yet, Elle is quite lonely.

However,

Elle ventures out into her backyard and down to the lake one day to draw and she meets her neighbours. A brother and sister, Mason and Claudine, who are visiting their summer house.  When they learn about Elle and her life, they try to show her there is more to the world than the soul-less existence she has been made to believe. Knowing her grandparents would disapprove, she hides her new friends from them, but life decides to call it's own shots.

A decent story line, but could have easily been stretched over a few books. Very heavy with inner dialogue/thoughts (and often the same ones repeated every chapter as Elle questions if she carries the sins of her mother with her) and not a lot of drama - especially when Elle's mother visits, and she finds out about her biological father - after all, what's VC Andrews without parental drama? - but everything was wrapped up in a nice little bow by the end of the book. Slightly disappointing, but not the worst story us fans have read.  I'd probably give it 3 stars, but that's being generous. Maybe 2.5?

Tell me what you thought of it !

Saturday 1 September 2018

anyone else excited summer is done-zo?

hello, lovelies !

what a month. I am so thankful August is over. Peace out, yo. Nothing bad happened, it was just stressful from lack of work and the work I did have .. well, payment got sent to the wrong address so life has been tiiight. Sigh.

The joys of being self employed, right?

Gave me lots of time to read, so lets get to it!

It took a while for me to get a grip on my shelves and what I was going to read this month so a lot of kindle reading happened

- Deliverer (amazing! 10/10 recommend)
- Worth Billions
- Hers to take
- Black
- Cruz
- Lost in me
- Taken
- Forbidden sister
- A girl like that (ARC for "We Can(ada) Read 2018")
- Kincaid
- Retribution of Mara Dyer
- Roxy's Story
- to all the boys I've loved before
- Hush Hush
- Cresendo
- Silence

which puts me at 127/200 ! whohoo. Slow but steady. I'm pretty sure I'll make my goal since my fall schedule is looking empty ... *tumbleweed flies by*

I'm feeling ambitious with this one. I really want to start reading more before bed but lately I've been so tired ... so many doggy walks lately since i can't just toss him out into a backyard to do his thang. which is fine, he's a lot calmer these days haha

- the colour purple
- unwanted child
- lost boy (preptober prep)
- finale
- 12 years a slave (which i have started and its so dry! going to be difficult)
- raven king
- the wedding date
- internet famous
- obsidio
- elanor and park
- leia

Plus I have 3 scheduled for Summer's eve reads and whatever catches my interest off my kindle. like always ;) and 2 ARCs from Netgalley to get to. so it should be a good month, but I am hopeful work picks up

Another crazy month. At least the move is over with ... all settled in nicely. Everything is unpacked that needs to be, and I get a new bed frame next week so the bedroom can be complete (and my back pain can hopefully go away) which should also stop the dog from thinking it's a bed for him - I don't mind cuddling with him, but he sheds so much that I have to change sheets more often and doing laundry in an apartment is annoying :p

Work has been SO SLOW. and this last week of August I think I did more work than I did the rest of the month combined. So I'm exhausted and stressed out. The doggy got mad at me because I wasn't home much so he went to visit the ex for a few days to have a playdate with the other pups and at least get proper walks/feeding times.  Man, I miss him. The apartment is so lonely now right ...  I get him back on the weekend when things calm down and I cannot wait!

Other than that, everything else is the same. My life is pretty boring haha I'm excited for Fall because work will pick up and hopefully this humidity goes away (not that i mind the heat, especially in canada because VERY SOON it's going to be all covered in white nonsense that i detest. sigh.)

October/November means it's NaNo season again! Yay! I'm still working on edits from my WIP from last year (this summer got away from me but I have a writing area set up on my dining room table which is helpful) but I feel a bit stuck with it so changing direction to my Captain Hook retelling is going to be fun. I got asked the other day if I wanted to be a writer ... which I thought was a weird question. I am a writer. Been writing since I was 12. I just don't care about being published. They didn't know how to take that lol
My mom got us tickets to go see a local production of Peter Pan in Mississauga in October so whoohoo! She knows me so well haha.

I guess that's it for this month! As always, follow me on twitter and insta to keep up with the puppy and the books @ inafieldofbooks

Review: Hush Hush

Hush Hush
Becca Fitzpatrick
Hush Hush Book 1

Lately this series has been calling to me. I wish I knew why.
Not that I'm disappointed in it because I think we all fell in love within a few pages of reading this one. 10/10 would recommend ; 5 stars!

Nora and Patch are paired as biology partners. Much to Nora's dismay, as she'd rather be paired with her best friend Vee and not the mysterious boy who kinda creeps her out with his intensity.
Everywhere she goes, Patch seems to be right behind her.

Of course, Patch has his reasons. Someone is trying to kill Nora... not that he can tell her that, though.

But Nora isn't stupid, and when she finds out Patch's secret and the reason for his interest in her, Nora must decide what she is willing to sacrifice to save both herself and Patch.

While I felt not much happened in the beginning, when I looked down and saw how far along I was I was happy it was such a quick read (or I was too entranced by it to be paying attention to the time). The writing is captivating, the characters are well written and have more depth than we realise, plus who can say no to a new bookboyfriend? *drools*  By the time we got to the dramatic ending, I was ready with book two nearby to continue on seeing how this love story is going to unfold.

Review: To All the Boys I've Loved Before

To All the Boys I've Loved Before
 Jenny Han

I wasn't sure what to expect with this one, but with the release of the Netflix movie and all the spoilers online, I turned off my electronics for a few hours and bumped this one up on my TBR.

Which I was hoping to do when I had the other two in the series, but what can you do? #bookwormproblems

To be honest, I thought the story was going to focus more on the letters, but when it begins to focus on two (the only two that make sense) I was pleased with how it went and tbh, I couldn't put it down.

Lara Jean has fallen in love/had intense feelings for 5 boys in her life. When this happens, she writes each boy a letter detailing her feelings. She addresses the letters...

... and sticks them in a hat box under her bed.

When she goes to school one day, trying to make the best of her Junior year as per the advice of her older sister Margot, Peter K from grade 7 comes up to her

and rejects her.

At first Lara Jean has no idea what he's talking about. Then he shows her the letter he received in the mail.  When she realises that all her letters were somehow sent out, her and Peter devise a plan to make his ex and one of the other letter recipients jealous. Operation fake relationship begins ... and the rest is history.

This story was too adorable for words. The family dynamic, the sisterly bonds (p.s if you don't love Kitty, you're wrong.) and Lara Jean's unique view point on everything made for a story you want to reread again and again.  Teenage love hasn't been this cute in a long time.  5 stars!

Netflix movie comparison

Obviously some scenes were changed for the purpose of television, but overall I thought they did a really good job with the movie. Which is rare, because if you pay attention to my opinions at all, I typically hate books-turned-movies/tv.

I didn't like how they changed her and Margo's scenes together, but I liked how their dad was more involved (Hello Mr Aidan 😍😍)

The main story was kept intact and the actors, while not who I would've picked, did amazing.  I do wish we got more Josh though ...  Not sure who's team I'm on but Kavinsky is definitely a keeper!

Wednesday 8 August 2018

julying in the heat

I can't even begin to describe the craziness that was July.

My reading definitely took a hit, though I am happy with how much I ended up doing

Unfortunately I did not get around to finishing up Camp- NaNo, which bummed me out so much. I did a few chapters but that was it *cries* Now that I'm finally settled into my new place, I am hoping to set up a writing corner.

Alright, on to the tracking:

My TBR for the month got packed away earlier than expected
but then I ordered books half way through the month (thanks bookoutlet!)

so I just opened up the box and read a bunch of those ones *grins*

- the bone gap
- dumplin'
- the real deal (via netgalley)
- scythe
- a thousand nights
- Mayfair
- daughter of the pirate king
- my new crush gave to me

and 3 for Summer's Eve reads

which puts me right now at 99/200! happy dances all around.

August is looking pretty empty, work wise, which is unfortunate but it means I got lots of time to hang around (though I still am figuring out where all my books can go)

I am not making a TBR this month, because I have lost control of what I was doing before the move. Honestly, it feels like my year has been split into before/after June (which is when everything hit the fan) and I have no idea what I'm doing anymore.

So I'm taking the next few weeks to getting back into my bookstagram, and the twitterverse and what I want to read.

and hopefully some writing

Now that the move is officially over, I am trying to figure out my new routine. No longer have a backyard so the dog needs to be walked more (which is nice because I get off my butt more) but I'm happy with how he's settling in. My neighbour is super creepy and the dog hates him, so I try and keep him off the balcony too. which is stupid because I should be able to sit outside with my puppy and read and not have to worry about some old guy getting my dog all riled up. Honestly.

I cannot wait for summer to be over. This heat is awful when you don't have air conditioning. The fan doesn't help. It's been rainy the past few days which has cooled stuff down, but still...

Come september I get a new routine with work at the college again (fingers crossed) which will be nice to have some sense of what the heck i'm doing every week.

Now, let's go find something to read ...

Monday 2 July 2018

my writing process

July 2018 is my first time doing Camp NaNoWriMo

if you pay attention to me at all (which, thanks for that :) ) then you'd know back in November 2017 was my first time doing NaNo at all. Wrote a YA Fantasy. First time i've ever finished anything, story-wise, in my life too.  I had a blast, but I was also lucky enough for work to be on strike so I had all the time in the world.

July, not so much... BUT !
I am being positive and instead of just dropping my goal, I'm going to keep going with it.

I was torn on whether I wanted to edit my November project or start one of my others
but a friend online convinced me to do edits
so here I am.

and instead of doing edits, I'm going to write about how I do it instead #procrastination at it's finest.

What I get before I start:

- a coffee, plus water or something for when the coffee is over.
- fully charged laptop
- spotify app opened because I need my tunes (24/7. Now that i live alone again I constantly have music playing, it's lovely) and headphones for when i do a serious scene
- my cue cards for my book notes (character profiles, world building, languages) These are colour-coded and I love them. I have a few sets for the different stories I have on the go.
- My notebook for whatever project i'm working on  - because sometimes I need to draw out a timeline, or a route my peeps are taking, or i mix it up from typing to writing. I follow my muse in the moment
- which means I also have my super-cute pencil case with a picture of a type writer on it, filled with all my favourite writing pens.

The Actual Process:

Back just before I did NaNo, I read Lauren Graham's bio Talking as Fast as I can and she mentioned a writing style on how she writes. It's called the "Kitchen timer method". You set a timer, for sprints basically, and you open 2 documents. One is your WIP, the other is for the thought-bunnies that just come up like groceries lists, and a reminder to bring more coffee next sprint.

considering my brain doesn't ever shutup, this is the method I follow. It helped a lot. The problem came when I never went back and read my notes until the end of the month and then I realised I forgot a lot of stuff, but some was just ramblings and editing notes so those come in handy now.  well, the editing, not the ramblings ;)

My editing process so far is pretty weak.
I've printed off my book and did a quick scan of stuff I want to change/delete, but there were so many small things and inconsistencies when I first drafted that I realise now since, p.s I am a 98% pantser for my writing. Even the names changed half way so sometimes I see one name, sometimes I see the changed name (for some reason Ctrl F didn't actually find them all. What is the point of technology, I ask you)

I struggle between updating on the printed copy, rewriting from scratch (following the paper edits) and editing the original story on the computer. It also makes it difficult to track my word count this way, but I know How i want the story to look, so it's just a matter of what I need to get there.

easier said than done but, im hopeful !

As far as the where goes, I can't be overly distracted - so I tend to keep the dogs out of the room, needy lil buggers - and no television. Sometimes a movie will help but only for certain scenes. I was on a major Power Ranger kick for the last week of NaNo and that thing was on repeat (though I didn't like how they redid Rita)

and I can't have silence because again, my brain tends to wander and then I get nothing done. Music or a well-known movie helps the multi-thoughts focus on something else - does anyone know what this syndrome is called? It's how I fall asleep too. Just a fan won't do, I typically throw on a disney movie to crash to. Hmm, a story idea is forming now. (apparently I need a thought-bunny document up when blogging now too)

Time of day doesn't matter, I follow my muse. It usually follows work though. I force myself to think about my WIP when I drive so that when I get home, I'm amped to go write. Once I'm in the zone, I'm good. I'm not someone who can write all day and night though. I find I have a solid hour or two, pending if I'm on a roll or not, and then I need a break.

Reward System

I've seen a lot of other writers who have done tip vids and blogs and most of them suggest a reward system of some kind. They don't work for me. The word count pushed me, I really wanted to win NaNo. My own limit was set for July but it's more the feeling that I'm satisfied with progress vs a word count this month. (i really want to get my ending under control). I was lucky enough to have a partner at the time who was cool with my undergoing this project. I'd get up shortly after getting into bed and go back to the computer, or he'd fall asleep first and i'd still be typing away...   One of our anniversaries was in November, so he had given me a new notebook that says "bright ideas" on it, or something. It's pink. i love it. It's kept by my bedside for when my dreams would make some cool story lines.

So that is pretty much it for my writing.

It's not much, but it's me. It's messy and organised chaos but it works.
Course, my first draft is a disaster. but they should be. so I'm happy with it.

Any other writers out there? Any one up for beta reading? Anyone up for crying in the corner together not doing edits?

Sunday 1 July 2018

Melting away in June

June came with a lot of stressors, but I made it through by the skin of my teeth :p

Let's get to it!

I was SO close to finishing my TBR this month but packing took over

- Dead boyfriend by RL Stine
- Fangirl
- the Darkest part of the Forest
- As old as Time
- Enchantment of Ravens
- A Court of Frost and Starlight

and 3 ARCs for Summer's eve reads

thats puts me at 88/200 for the year ! sigh.
Still not where I want to be, but hey....

Camp NaNoWriMo starts July 1 ! woot. I'm editing my book that I wrote back in November (eek!!) which i'm excited for but also, where the heck do I start? haha.

I move mid-month which means I get new library/office set up so I cannot wait. almost two years in the townhouse and I've never been happy with how I had my stuff set up. I'm too picky for my own good, I swear...

Bookwise, I want to get to

- Obsidio
- The raven king
- the art of racing in the rain
- city of brass
- (finish up) a thousand nights
- hangman's daughter

Yes, all of these are STILL on my darn list ... stop giving me that look, alright #bookwormproblems

I have at least 1 ARC due, but I'm taking the month off for "due date" reads so I don't stress myself out more while dealing with the move.

Hmm. Well. Life is still pretty crazy. I hate packing. Have I mentioned that? Like, I. Hate. Packing.
Louder for the people in the back.
My mom offered to come help me pack, but she just gets in the way haha. I'll be glad just to be done with it all, August can't come fast enough...  It should be calmer and more fun.

Work is going alright. Picking up some side work for the summer weekends which is not going to pay the bills by any means, but it's some mad money. Maybe I can buy books again *sobs* I miss shopping ...

Hopefully everyone else's summer is going better than mine!

Any other Campers around? I got sorted into a random cabin and they're all YA writers so I'm excited :)

Review: Enchantment of Ravens

 An Enchantment of Ravens
 Margaret Rogerson

A unique take on a magical world, this story takes you into the land of Craft and the Fair ones. I crawled inside of this world and did not want to leave.

Rook and Isobel's story starts off as a business exchange where Isobel uses her Craft of painting to do a portrait of Rook. The meetings quickly turn into the two of them losing control of their feelings and breaking Fae law. To avoid the Hunt (and death) they travel back to the Fae lands where Rook can keep her safe until their plan for safety can be put into place.

An amazing new twist on Fae lore that has you begging for more before it is over.

Some small predictions, but overall, a new favourite for those you love Fae, secrets, and of course, a good old fashioned love story.

Add this one to the reread list, ladies and gents.

author meets, giveaways and not enough reading

holy heat, batman.  Don't get me wrong, I love the heat. But this is a bit much; esp when the AC in the house doesn't work to the point that when you turn it on, the house gets warmer. Sigh. even the puppies are melting.

It was a crazy month, like usual. For some weird reasons. Time seemed to go quickly, for the most part. Though it was an emotional month so blame that ?

Alright, let's get down to business

(without any huns)

The more I add to my TBR, the less I read... I swear, I'm cursed.

This month included:

- Daughter of Darkness
- Immortal Reign (finally!)
- Artemis Fowl: the Lost Colony
- Glass Sword
- the Last Guy
- Royal Player
- Dead Boyfriend
- Nowhere else but here by Rachel Cotton (Via Netgalley)

I'm in the middle of 3 since my brain cannot focus this past week (King's Cage, AF: the time paradox, and enchantment of ravens)

and finished 4 for Summer Eve's Reviews (p.s. Mr Masters was amazing)

so not an awful month, with 12 completed, but not what i wanted by far.

this puts me at 79/200. hmph.  So behind on reviews too, eek.

I met Victoria Aveyard this month and it was fantastic! I mean, the event itself was unorganised (by the store/staff) and when the staff was trying to entertain the crowd, she didn't even know the characters (who the heck is Mark Barrows) and I was so uncomfy standing like a sardine in the middle of the room that I debated on leaving but ... even being the 154th person to get my book signed, it was worth it, eventually.  My collection of signed books is growing slowly!

My home life is kinda falling apart so who knows what life is going to look like within the next few weeks but! I still have goals. (kinda)

* finish up my 3 current reads
- fangirl
- raven king
- thousand nights
- art of racing in the rain (anyone else see this is becoming a movie?)
- Obsidio
- ACOFAS (*happy dance*)
- as old as time
- darkest part of the forest

and I have 2 for TDC that are technically due in may (though I never put them on the calendar, oops) and 2 due in June. Plus a few for Summer's Eve Reviews.   Let's hope these all keep my attention since work is just. so. slow!

JUNE IS ALSO MY TWO YEAR BLOGAVERSARY ! hurray !
I'll be doing a giveaway of sorts
so keep an eye on my twitter and IG
maybe facebook too but no one ever looks at that thing ;)

Like i said earlier, everything is kinda falling apart at home. The pups are good though which is always nice. Though the new guy *hates* the rain and since it's rainy season he's all anxious and needy. Honestly, boy. He's lucky he's stinkin' cute! anyone have anxious pets? how do you help them when they have to be home alone? (soon the other dogs won't be around to help him)

Work has been slower than I was expecting (and lots of cancellations which is just rude.)  I've been spending more time with my nieces/nephew though, which has been fun. Kids are weird though. It's hard not to laugh or just walk away.. :p

My best friend keeps going on vacations and doesn't smuggle me with her. what even is the point of having friends, i ask you. but she's home now and I get to see her this weekend when I go back to my "hometown" (which sounds so stupid but its a decent hour drive on the highway and some days the traffic makes it feel like another country. stupid toronto traffic...)

I think that's it for May!

here's the bookhaul <3

(though a few last minute buys are missing; found the most amazing bookstore up in parry sound and i'm in love. need to go back asap)
