Review: To All the Boys I've Loved Before

To All the Boys I've Loved Before
 Jenny Han

I wasn't sure what to expect with this one, but with the release of the Netflix movie and all the spoilers online, I turned off my electronics for a few hours and bumped this one up on my TBR.

Which I was hoping to do when I had the other two in the series, but what can you do? #bookwormproblems

To be honest, I thought the story was going to focus more on the letters, but when it begins to focus on two (the only two that make sense) I was pleased with how it went and tbh, I couldn't put it down.

Lara Jean has fallen in love/had intense feelings for 5 boys in her life. When this happens, she writes each boy a letter detailing her feelings. She addresses the letters...

... and sticks them in a hat box under her bed.

When she goes to school one day, trying to make the best of her Junior year as per the advice of her older sister Margot, Peter K from grade 7 comes up to her

and rejects her.

At first Lara Jean has no idea what he's talking about. Then he shows her the letter he received in the mail.  When she realises that all her letters were somehow sent out, her and Peter devise a plan to make his ex and one of the other letter recipients jealous. Operation fake relationship begins ... and the rest is history.

This story was too adorable for words. The family dynamic, the sisterly bonds (p.s if you don't love Kitty, you're wrong.) and Lara Jean's unique view point on everything made for a story you want to reread again and again.  Teenage love hasn't been this cute in a long time.  5 stars!

Netflix movie comparison

Obviously some scenes were changed for the purpose of television, but overall I thought they did a really good job with the movie. Which is rare, because if you pay attention to my opinions at all, I typically hate books-turned-movies/tv.

I didn't like how they changed her and Margo's scenes together, but I liked how their dad was more involved (Hello Mr Aidan 😍😍)

The main story was kept intact and the actors, while not who I would've picked, did amazing.  I do wish we got more Josh though ...  Not sure who's team I'm on but Kavinsky is definitely a keeper!
