Review: Tower of Dawn

so FINALLY i read this one
because after empire of storms
i got distracted with the rest of my shelves
and they're such long books ...

so even though i rushed out on release day to grab this one
(and kingdom of ash tbh)
they just took up space on my shelves, starring me down

I was now ready to dive back into the world of magic, fae and assassins and see what happened to my lovely characters

let's start with Chaol

honestly, it's been at about 2 years since i read anything from this series, so i had no idea what was going on.

who are these people? (except chaol. but i didn't remember what had happened to him)

but i kept with it, quickly falling back in love with the world and the people who lived there

the only issue i have with this series, is that it's so detail orientated that if i have something on the tv or people around, it's hard to focus and many times i found my eyes going back to the top of the left page so i could reread the past 2 minutes

but i finished it
and loved it

though that "epilogue" was super confusing and i hope that kingdom of ash clears things up because i don't remember the past books

which makes me question if i should reread them
but ...
my tbr is too long for that right now.

Review: Nevernight

well.
i finally did it.
I made it through Nevernight.
the first time i got it was from the library and with the time constraint, i felt pressured to get through it.
and it wasn't a mood read so it just wasn't happening.

i bought it instead recently
(and godsgrave bc i can't just have one)
and so i got to read it when i was ready ...

... which wasn't long after purchasing haha

I liked it this time.
the writing got to me at times, but i like JK's other stuff so I stuck with it
and happy i did

Mia's story is quite amazing
and powerful
and yet it was laced with the sarcasm that this girl loves to see

i don't get why it gets such a bad rep.
yeah, it's not YA (though you could argue you have a young lady trying to save the world...ish)
i still don't get the freak outs with the death and sexy stuff.

I found it very mild (esp the sexy stuff. like, this is not risque at all peeps. if that was insane to you, you're not reading enough of the good stuff. but i like my smut. so... i disgress)

Tric and the others in the program waiting to be chosen is a wild ride.
from start to finish, this story takes you on a path of revenge, friendship, love and self-care

It didn't take me long to get through it
and now i'm actually excited for godsgrave
all the reviews online have shown i'm just in the beginning of a tragic story and i can't wait to see how Mia's life plays out.

Nope-vember

Welp.
November was a bust.
let's talk about it ...

I'm surprised i got any books in
but
i did!

- Enchantee (though most of it was read in Oct)
- enter whining
- sailor moon 6
- permanent record
- a man named ove

with everything else that went on, i'm surprised i got these in

putting me at 166/150 for the year.
anything i read now is just bonus so yay

i plan to be a bookdragon this month

- KotLC: legacy
- tower of dawn / kingdom of ash
- queen of nothing
- nevernight (attempting it again)
- possibly dawndawn if i get thru NN
- julie andrews: home
- kanin chronicles (3 books at least)

plus whatever christmas books i get and breeze through
i usually am pushing to get to 200 by this time but i lessened my goal
and it feels so much easier to just read what i want, how i want
next year i think ill go back up to 200
bigger books on my list through so we shall see
it also depends how work is going to go
and life in general *shrugs*

November was insane ! i don't know where the time went, but the work weeks flew by! though there were some challenges with that and it wasn't fun
my weekends went fast too, either i worked or was hanging with manfriend
and time always goes by fast when him and i are together.
2 days a week is not enough, still trying to find a place in his city to move to
i'm sick of apartments and basements - especially with a dog (he misses running around a backyard. and off leash) so it's making the search harder

NaNoWriMo was attempted. and failed. i mean, i did just over 8k so yay. but i saw facebook memories of my word count and, mind you i had 5 weeks off with pay last time i successfully tried NaNo so big difference. still. this story is just as difficult as molasses in winter to pull out of me. i dont know why. i love the concept. i was also too tired when i got home most days. usually i'm a morning writer (productive in general) and night time i'm exhausted. so this month i work every morning ... and evenings i'm so sleepy lol
i'm going to keep at it more. we will see how the next few weeks ago.

otherwise i dont think anything is new. december isn't too busy with work, which is nice, but being self employed means a tight month. this is why i xmas shop year round *thumbs up*

can't believe how crazy 2019 was.
just the difference a year makes...

3 months to go!

anyone else feel september went both slow and quick at the same time?
jeeze.

i read a decent amount, considering i'm back to full-time hours at work.

- broken wings / midnight flight
- mary poppins
- beneath the attic
- midnight beauties
- sawkill girls
- Sailor moon V5

- ink and bone /paper and fire
- power rangers V1
-xmen: days of future past
- art of racing in the rain
- captain marvel V1
- twice in a blue moon
- perversion

which puts me at  140/150
and still 3 months to go !

october is looking like another crazy month
though the college has a "reading week" so that helps

- finishing up the Great Library series
- 4 netgalley books
- into the Darkness (for a book group)
- continuing Keepers of the Lost Cities (6-7)
- Marvel & power ranger graphic novels (depends what the library gets in)
- unpregnant
- spindle fire
- dating you/ hating you
- a man called ove

I doubt I'll get to the last 2 but heres hoping

October means preptober but we'll see how that goes. i need to find an accountability partner for NaNo .. but we'll see how that works
i also need to get back into my crocheting, since i have a few xmas gifts i wana make
life is being boring lately, i need a change and nothing can be done overnight (lifestyle wise) and it's getting frustrating. what can ya do, i guess.

september was difficult trying to find a new routine, but i think it's pretty good now. the colours are changing out there and i'm a bit grumpy with the coldness... but at least granite is happier.
also trying to squeeze workouts into my daily routine, and i wana start swimming for fitness purposes but who knows what i'll find in this city.

my mom told me she booked us a flight to paris/london for my 30th in may so we've been talking like crazy about it. so excited. all the harry potter ! haha

see you on the other side of the pumpkin patch !

I have no idea what happened in July.

keeping it small this month

- Dollanganger series
- finish up Magic Kingdom series
- Sawkill girls
- lament / ballad
- we bought a zoo

plus whatever else nudges me
i find my concentration is off lately... its getting harder to read

really thinking of how much my life has changed. I've been in this apartment for a year come Aug 1. crazy how fast 12 months can go by ... and how much can change.

so... NaNo was a fail last month. Did about half my goal and lost motivation. I don't know whats up with me the past few months ... I don't wana do anything.
yet my "want to do" list is so huge.
overwhelming, that's for sure.
plus the last weekend of July I got a massive sunburn which had me couch-ridden for a few days since I couldn't move without screaming out in pain.
and lots of crying.
i've watched a lot of t.v lately.
not sure what to expect for August ... trying to go more with the flow but who knows what this month will bring.
im also very annoyed with my life ... i hate when things get stale.
i recently changed my hair just to do something different
(it was between that and a tattoo and manfriend voted hair change. tho then he complained it's so short haha i agree with him)
but i wana rearrange my furniture or something and its sucha small apartment that i'm kinda stuck with things where they are.
rude.

maybe my mood will improve this month.
fingers crossed.
